Flatbed Transport in Spain for Machinery, Steel and Long Loads
Grúas y Transportes MAVI is a haulage company based in Vila-real (Castellón, Spain) that moves machinery, steel, precast concrete and other long, heavy or awkward loads on flatbed trailers throughout Spain. With no sides or roof, a flatbed can be loaded from above, from the sides or from the rear by crane or forklift, and every load is secured to EN 12195-1 so it arrives exactly as it left.

What is a flatbed trailer?
A flatbed is an open semi-trailer with a flat deck and no sides or roof. Because nothing gets in the way, it takes loads that won't fit in a closed or curtainsider trailer — long, wide, tall or oddly shaped items — and can be loaded and unloaded from any side.
Transport of bulky and long loads
The open platform is the solution for goods that don't fit in a conventional trailer: long, bulky or irregularly shaped pieces. Machinery, steel, pipes, structural sections or building materials, carried with stability and safety.
Loading and unloading from any side, by crane or forklift
Because it is open, the flatbed can be loaded from above, from the sides or from the rear. That speeds up crane or forklift work and makes it possible to handle pieces that would be impossible in a closed truck, including at sites without a loading dock.
Machinery, steel structures and precast concrete
We move industrial and construction machinery, steel structures, precast concrete, coils, pipes and bulky palletised loads. We study each load to choose the right flatbed and the right restraint.
• Industrial machinery and construction plant.
• Structural steel, beams and steel sections.
• Precast concrete elements.
• Pipes and tubes.
• Steel coils and sheet.
• Agricultural machinery.
• Building materials and bulky palletised loads.
Secure lashing for open loads
Because the goods travel exposed, load securing, lashing is critical. We use straps, chains, chocks and edge protectors in line with EN 12195-1, the European standard for load restraint on road vehicles. The restraint is calculated to hold the load under 0.8 g braking forward and 0.5 g to the sides and rear, so nothing moves on the road.
How we plan a flatbed load, step by step
1. We assess the load
Dimensions, weight, centre of gravity and any particular features of the goods.
2. We plan the transport
The right flatbed, the route and the lashing method for that load.
3. We load and lash
Loaded from the best side, with restraint calculated to EN 12195-1 and checked before departure.
4. We deliver
The load arrives stable and intact, and we coordinate unloading with you.
Flatbed or curtainsider: which do you need?
A curtainsider (tautliner) protects the goods from the weather and is ideal for pallets. A flatbed has no curtains or frame, so it takes loads that are too tall, too long or too awkward for a curtainsider, and loads that must be lifted in by crane from above. If your goods can get wet or dirty, a curtainsider or sheeting is the better option; if they don't fit, it's a flatbed.
Loads that exceed the standard limits
If a load is longer, wider, taller or heavier than the limits for ordinary traffic, it becomes an abnormal load. In that case we arrange it as special transport, with the special movement permit, escort vehicles and signage it requires, still with the same point of contact.
What we need to quote your flatbed transport
• What the load is, with its length, width, height and weight.
• How many pieces, and whether they can be stacked.
• Photos or drawings, including lifting and lashing points if there are any.
• Collection and delivery addresses.
• How it will be loaded and unloaded (crane, forklift, own means).
• Planned date.

Flatbed transport: frequently asked questions
What loads are transported on a flatbed?
Bulky, long, heavy or irregularly shaped loads that won't fit in a closed trailer: machinery, steel structures, precast concrete, pipes, steel sections, coils and building materials.
How is an open trailer loaded?
With no sides or roof, a flatbed can be loaded from above, from the sides or from the rear by crane or forklift, choosing the easiest access for each item.
How is a load secured on a flatbed?
With straps, chains, chocks and edge protectors in line with EN 12195-1, the European load restraint standard. Lashing is especially important on an open trailer so nothing shifts on the road.
What is the difference between a flatbed and a curtainsider?
A curtainsider has a roof and side curtains that protect the goods from the weather; a flatbed is fully open. A flatbed takes loads that are too tall, long or awkward for a curtainsider and loads lifted in by crane from above.
Can you carry overhanging or oversize loads?
Yes. Depending on the dimensions, we arrange the transport with the relevant permits; when a load exceeds the standard limits, it is handled as special transport (abnormal load).
Which areas do you cover?
We operate from Castellón, Spain, throughout the Valencian Community and run national routes to anywhere in mainland Spain.
How do I get a quote?
Send us the dimensions, weight, origin and destination using the form on this page or call +34 964 534 074, and we will send you a fixed, no-obligation quote.
Can you load and unload at sites without a loading dock?
Yes. A flatbed doesn't need a dock: it can be loaded from the ground by crane or forklift from any side. If there is no lifting equipment on site, we can combine the transport with a crane truck.
What if my goods must not get wet?
A flatbed is open, so tell us if the goods need protection from the weather. Depending on the load, we will recommend a curtainsider or the most suitable way to protect it.
